The road to certification

Stages 1–7 follow MoF Regulation 137/2023 and Director General Regulation PER-20/BC/2024 — those durations are set by regulation, not by us. Stage 0 is our own estimate, and it is the one that varies most between companies.

  1. 0

    Internal preparation

    Varies

Internal control system, procedures, master data, internal-audit evidence

  2. 1

    Filing the application

    1–2 weeks

Application package submitted through the Customs Portal

  3. 2

    Administrative review

    2 working days

    Application accepted or returned

  4. 3

    Document validation & presentation

    30 days

    Minutes and remediation recommendations

  5. 4

    Remediation follow-up

    30 days

    Remediation documents submitted

  6. 5

    On-site validation

    1–2 weeks

    Site-visit minutes

  7. 6

    Closing recommendations

    Up to 6 months

    All recommendations closed

  8. 7

    Panel forum & decision

    10 working days

Director General decision and AEO certificate

The number that matters most: stage 6. A company that arrives well prepared receives few recommendations and closes them quickly. One that arrives hoping for the best can spend the full six months there. That is exactly where preparation pays for itself.

Start with a Full Diagnostic

A full assessment of your customs compliance, procedures, master data and AEO readiness — the honest basis for choosing a package, or for deciding to wait.

Certification is granted by the Directorate General of Customs and Excise based on its own assessment and validation. SGS does not guarantee that an application will be granted and does not charge success fees on outcomes that rest with the authority.
